Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has handed down the updated top 10 players in the competition after Round 20, with a few changes to the Round 16 list.

The ratings system - 100X - works by analysing how far above or below expectation players have performed per 100 minutes, meaning all positions on the ground can be compared.

Check out the fresh rankings below:

1. Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 1

“Marcus Bontempelli is again our number 1 rated player in the comp,” Hoyne said on SEN’s Sportsday.

2. Isaac Heeney (Sydney)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 2

“Interestingly for Heeney, over the last six weeks he’s 156th in the competition.

“He maintains his spot because he was miles ahead of anyone else in the comp.

“But he is coming off and coming off quick.”

3. Patrick Cripps (Carlton)
Previous ranking at Round 16: Outside top 10

4. Dan Houston (Port Adelaide)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 9

5. Nick Blakey (Sydney)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 6

6. Bailey Dale (Western Bulldogs)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 8

7. Max Holmes (Geelong)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 4

“If Holmes finishes the season in the top 10, he will become the seventh youngest player to finish the year in the top 10.”

8. Harry Sheezel (North Melbourne)
Previous ranking at Round 16: Outside top 10

“I just want to put this in to comparison - this is a ratings system that has been going for 15 years.

“If Harry finishes the year in the top 10, which on current form he will walk in, he will become the second youngest player in 15 years to be in the top 10.

“The youngest? Marcus Bontempelli in 2015.

“There has only been two players that have been 20 or under to finish the season in the top 10.”

9. Zak Butters (Port Adelaide)
Previous ranking at Round 16: Outside top 10

10. Jack Sinclair (St Kilda)
Previous ranking at Round 16: 10

Special notes based on the last six weeks:

Hayden Young is currently the best player in the competition over the last six weeks.

“In that six-week period he has had 25-plus disposals once. It is all damage with ball in hand. It’s maximum impact.

Tom Papley was the second best player in the comp (over the last six weeks). He’s out injured now.

Cam Rayner at number 6 over the last six weeks. He’s in career-best form.

“Not surprise that Toby Greene is back in the top 10 over the last six weeks. He’s the ninth best player.

“And just a little bit of a left-field one - Callan Ward has been moved to the wing recently and is starting to have some significant impact.

“He’s inside the top 20 in the comp over the last six weeks.”
