SEN’s Greg Alexander has dismissed rumours that star winger Brian To’o is agitating for a release from his contract at the Penrith Panthers.

Unconfirmed reports began filtering through on Tuesday that To’o and his team have engaged in informal discussions with rival clubs about potentially acquiring his services. It was later reported that the crux of To’o’s apparent frustration was over his lesser salary compared to other wingers in the competition.

Alexander, who is currently a member of the board of directors at Penrith, was adamant that To’o is not disgruntled at the Panthers and the club will not grant an early release from his contract which runs until 2027.

“My wife asked me if Brian To’o was leaving Penrith,” Alexander said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“I asked her what she was talking about. Definitely not. He’s contracted until the end of 2027. Another three years after this one.

“It’s not true but the story continued to get legs throughout the day.

“The reported unhappiness with remuneration, which means money, is absolute news to the club.

“I’m part of the retention and recruitment committee and Brian To’o’s name has not been raised.

“It has not happened. Not one mention. (High performance manager) Matt Cameron will speak with Brian and his manager on Wednesday.

“There will not be an early release under any circumstances. As a club, we’d be disappointed if the NRL’s anti-tampering rules were being abused.”

To’o has been named in Penrith’s line up for their Sunday afternoon clash against the Newcastle Knights in Round 22.
