Leading trainer Sam Freedman says punters should be keeping a close eye on St Vincents Garden.

Formerly trained by Joseph O’Brien, St Vincents Garden has had one race start since moving to Australia at the Sunshine Coast a fortnight ago where he ran second.

He steps up to the 2000m trip this weekend at Flemington and has been met with market support for jockey Damian Lane who will don the famous Lloyd Williams silks.

“He’s definitely one to watch, I would think, this horse,” Freedman told SENTrack.

“He’s definitely on the up and he came to us in really good order. Lloyd filled us in all about him and we certainly hope that he can progress through the grades to get to a nice level.

“He’s not great out of the barrier, he wasn’t great the other day and in Australia that’s obviously to your detriment a little bit but he’s got a great set of lungs on him and will probably be better over 2400m.

“I think Flemington with a good jockey, he’s definitely one to follow.”

St Vincents Garden will jump from barrier eight in the seventh race and is currently rated the $4.8 equal favourite with Sportsbet.
