In the wake of Shaun Johnson’s retirement announcement, rugby league immortal joined SENZ Mornings to reflect on the club icon’s brilliant career.
Upheld as arguably the greatest halfback of all time, Johns dives into what made Johnson such a mercurial star, his impact on the sport, and what his legacy within the NZ Warriors will be.
“What a player,” the three-time Dally M medalist told co-host Ian Smith. “What an absolute champion player.
“If you’re having the conversation about the best Kiwis, he’d be up there in the Top 10.”
Johns points to Johnson’s enormous influence aspiring rugby league players across Australasia, who grew up trying to imitate that trademark step.
“One thing about Shaun is, he would’ve influenced a generation of players, very similar to Benji Marshall,” he explained.
“Shaun would’ve been inspired by Benji, and no doubt Shaun’s inspired so many young kids over there and also here in Australia.
“He’s been such a unique player.”
The Australian Immortal also weighs in on a topic sure to divide Warriors Nation – Stacey Jones or Shaun Johnson, who’s the best Warriors to wear the No. 7 jersey?
