SEN’s Andrew Voss has made an impassioned plea for the Victorian Government and Australia’s leaders to reconsider their decision to scrap the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The Dan Andrews led Victorian Government made the controversial choice in 2023 to scrap the Comm Games which would’ve been held in regional Victoria, citing the inflated costs for infrastructure.

Voss believes that the current success of the Australian team at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games proves there is a market for the Comm Games and believes the Andrews Government’s decision to abandon the Games may have been premature.

“With these Olympic Games, I have become more invested day-by-day to the point where I’m taking in everything,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“That wasn’t the case for the first three or four days. On the back of the swimming, I have bought into so many stories.

“I can’t help but think that so soon after (the Olympics wraps up), Australia would love to have the Commonwealth Games.

“Imagine it being in our backyard for 10 or 11 days; you don’t think that in our time zone that every night, it would (rate).

“Swimming finals in the first week and then athletics. It’s been a great Olympic Games (to this point).

“Dan Andrews, I think you stuffed up. He pulled the pin and fudged up some rubbery figures.

“I think we would go into the Comm Games (excited). Throw in the Fox sisters and skateboarding, basketball, hockey, swimming and all these other events. Is it too late to get them back?

“Can Sydney come in at the 11th Hour? Can we muscle together and have the Games all around Australia or even in the Eastern seaboard if we can?

“Let’s get it on.”

The 2026 Commonwealth Games currently has no location.
