David King and Gerard Whateley have named four seeds following Round 24 of the 2024 AFL season.

While King and Whateley typically rank the four teams they have the most confidence in going forward, with the home and away season coming to an end, the duo picked the four teams that finished outside of the eight who they’re most bullish about before 2025.

These are the teams that they’re backing to potentially push up and play finals next campaign.

At the end of 2023, Whateley ranked Adelaide first, Geelong at two, Essendon at three and the Bulldogs at four. King had Gold Coast at one, Adelaide at two, Fremantle at three and the Bulldogs at four. Only the Cats and Dogs would go on to play finals one year later.

See their seedings below: Number one is the team they’re most confident in.

KING

1 - Fremantle

“One for me is Fremantle.

“This is a list that's just overflowing with premiership capability and if they get Shai Bolton that's great.

“If they don't, they get three great picks into the door.

“Fremantle should be charging to a top four. Not necessarily the eight, but the four.”

2 – Gold Coast

“Two are my boys the Suns.

“You'll be late to the party with the Suns and you'll ring me one day and you’ll go, ‘You know what, they're charging’, but they're already a long way overdue for what it's worth.”

3 – Melbourne

“Three are the Demons.

“Irrespective of what happens in the off season, they’ll be a better product next year.

“They couldn't have had more go wrong than they've had this year.”

4 - Essendon

“I'll go with Essendon just because I can't stand the feedback if I don't put them in.

“I kind of hope they don’t do it … I could have put Collingwood here.”

WHATELEY

1 - Collingwood

“I thought I'd just been the dull obvious, but you didn't even put them in.

“One is Collingwood. Collingwood will make the finals next year.

“They'll start from a better place with a bit of rest. They were exhausted all year, and they made bad decisions off field.

“They'll be buttoned up next year in the eight.”

2 – St Kilda

“I've got St Kilda at two.

“They'll get their start of their season right next year.”

3 - Essendon

“I’ve put Essendon at three and I've left Melbourne out.

“I'm not sure that they (Melbourne) rise next year.”

4 – Gold Coast

“I've gone Gold Coast at four.

“I'm not as bullish on them as you are and that's ok.”
