Gold Coast swingman Mac Andrew could become the highest paid player in the game in 12 months, looming as the name to watch in the 2025 trade period.
Tom Morris is reporting that the 20-year-old’s manager has been approached with an offer from a Victorian club worth $12 million over eight years.
Morris provided a trade update on SEN Breakfast, with an eye to the names that could break the bank in 2025.
Mac Andrew
“I told you a few weeks ago that his next contract would be about $1 million per season. I was actually wrong. My understanding is one Victorian club has told his manager that they are prepared to offer $1.5 million per year for eight years.”
“That’s a $12 million deal. When I took it to his manager Ashley Blair from Pacific Sports Management he said, and I quote, ‘Mac will be at the Suns in 2025 and we’re working closely with them on a longer-term deal’.
“So it’s not for this year as much as it is for next year. A $12 million deal. I don’t know who the club is, but there are clubs in Victoria with a ton of money. North Melbourne and St Kilda among them.”
“Andrew, Chad Warner and Andrew Brayshaw – they’re the big three to watch next year.”
Andrew Brayshaw
“Fremantle want to extend him beyond free agency which is next year, but watch clubs come from the clouds for him.”
“He is a very attractive player, partly because he is a free agent next year, but he’s reliable, he’s a leader, he’s durable, he’s consistent.”
Bailey Smith
“His manager has told clubs that if you want to get in the room with him, we’d like a six-year deal for him. I’d assume the Cats have put forward a six-year deal already.”
Jake Stringer
“As we reported last Monday night, Stringer’s got a clause in his contract which means he has a contract next year at Essendon.”
“Cal Twomey reported Stringer is due $400,000 next year and he hit the trigger because he played 36 games across 2023 and 2024.
“Stringer’s message to rival clubs is very clear given Essendon don’t want to offer him a second year. ‘Come and offer me a two-year deal and I will seriously consider it’.
“He’d prefer to stay at Essendon.”
Alex Davies
“Collingwood and Geelong have lodged an interest, but nothing more than that. The Suns have offered a two-year deal, but Davies wants to play senior footy.”
Mason Wood
“He’s just signed a three-year deal. He turns 31 in a couple of weeks.”
Dan Butler
“Has signed a two-year deal with the Saints.”
