Parker highlights "alarming" moment that typifies Broncos' horror 2024 season

Former Brisbane Broncos legend and SEN’s Corey Parker has questioned whether the Broncos' playing group are as galvanised as previous years following the 40-6 loss against crosstown rivals The Dolphins.

Brisbane were on the back of a two-game winning streak and were a live chance to qualify for finals. However, following another poor performance, the Broncos have finally been eliminated from finals contention and confirmed the team’s almighty fall from grace.

Parker said there were moments during the contest that proved disharmony within the Broncos playing group.

“Jamayne Isaako scores in the right hand corner (for the Dolphins) and I reckon 13 players on the field jumped on him,” Parker said on SENQ.

“They were elated and there was emotion.

“I think there were two players (for the Broncos) who celebrated when Pat Carrigan scored.

“The score at that point was 12-0 and that was to make it 12-6 so they were still well and truly in the game.

“There’s a lot of things you can look at from body language, emotion and that was one of them.

“When you see the Penrith Panthers celebrate every piece of success to the point where they get a bit of criticism the other way.

“I’d rather the carry on than not have any jubilation or emotion shown from your teammates.

“When the team isn’t going any good, of course you dissect it and ask yourself why.

“There’s no cohesion and you start to see examples like that. That was glaring and alarming.”

After the Broncos’ season came to an end, coach Kevin Walters engaged in a war of words with a journalist in the post-match press conference over another blowout loss.

The fiery exchange was more proof for Parker that there were areas of disconnect throughout the entire club.

“It’s really important for a head coach (to) have media managers that they trust and come up with a plan,” Parker added.

“You need to have a plan in a press conference especially when you know which questions are going to come up and you’re under fire.

“I don’t think any conversations are being had between Kevin and the media manager.

“Messaging is so vital because you want to know what the coach and captain have to say.

“It looked like there was no plan from Kevin Walters and there needed to be.”

The Broncos end their season against the minor premiers Melbourne on Thursday night at Suncorp Stadium.
