Alex De Minaur has claimed another victory in the US Open after defeating fellow Aussie Jordan Thompson 6-0, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Despite hitting his seventh double fault in the final game of the match, De Minaur managed to get the job in just under three hours.

“I’ve got so much respect for Thommo,” De Minaur said after the match.

“We’ve grown up together, he’s been like a big brother to me, so I really appreciate everything he has done for me. He’s a hell of a competitor, my Davis Cup team-mate and I can’t wait to share the court many, many times with him.”

Winning his way into the quarter finals, De Minaur is set to face British rising star Jack Draper on Thursday. Regardless of having beaten the 22-year-old three times before in other competitions, the pair have never played off in a best of five sets tournament.

De Minaur is now the seventh Australian to reach multiple men’s singles quarterfinals in the US Open.

His victory makes also makes him the first Australian in nearly 20 years to play three back-to-back Grand Slam quarter finals alongside Lleyton Hewitt who achieved this incredible accomplishment between 2004-05.
