NZ Cricket announced on Thursday that Simon Insley's replacement for the Blackcaps' Performance Manager will be someone familiar with the environment.

Mike Sandle, currently working as the CEO of the Taranaki Rugby Football Union, will shift back to the Blackcaps at the conclusion of this year's provincial rugby season.

Insley stepped down from the role earlier this year to join South Australia Cricket.

Sandle's return brings with it a wealth of experience in the international cricket arena, including: six Cricket World Cups, plus the historic 2021 World Test Championship victory.

But the position has changed from the last time Sandle was with the side, shifting from an administrative, logistical, and diplomatic position to become a more performance-based role. NZC boss Scott Weenink is confident that shift aligns with Sandle's skills.

“Mike’s been immersed in high performance sport for more than 20 years, initially with Taranaki Rugby, then the Blues franchise, followed by the Blackcaps, before returning to Taranaki Rugby,” Weenink said.

“We’re very happy with his understanding of the game and its demands on players, coaching staff, and selectors alike.

“There aren’t many people around with Mike’s mix of skills and we’re delighted to welcome him back.”

With the NPC Final scheduled for the end of October, Sandle will potentially join the Blackcaps mid-tour in India.

SENZ will have live ball-by-ball coverage of all three Tests between the Blackcaps and India, starting October 16.
