SEN’s Sam Edmund has provided a general update on the competition’s trade rumours ahead of the 2024 trade period.
Starting in the Gold Coast, Jack Lukosius has been heavily linked to a potential move to South Australia.
The former number two pick managed 23 goals from 21 appearances in a rather stagnant season with the Suns.
“A watch on Lukosious, he has not formally requested a trade as yet,” Edmund told SEN Crunch Time.
“The conversations have gone ‘well, you’re free to look around’.
“So, he is looking around at the moment, no obvious suitor at this stage.
“Obviously linked heavily to South Australia, there has been some interest from some Melbourne based clubs as well, but I think we all expect him to potentially end up at Port Adelaide or Adelaide.
West Coast veteran Jack Darling may be looking into a move away from the Eagles, reportedly likely to play out the last year of his lucrative deal at Arden Street.
“The one that puzzles so many people, and now the industry is basically talking to the extent that this is a formality, as a done deal, is Jack Darling to North Melbourne.
“A player at the age of 32 who has not been lightly raced, for a club that are where North Melbourne are at, it’s sounding like a two-year deal, he’s got one year of a contract to run at the West Coast Eagles.”
Essendon’s Jake Stringer also remains on the hunt for a deal outside of Essendon, as the general forward seeks a two-year deal to further solidify his future.
While linked to rival Melbourne-based club, Edmund reports Stringer may find himself back at Windy Hill come 2025.
“Jake Stringer’s hunt to add a second year to his contract has taken him right across the competition,” Edmund reports.
“This is such a fascinating watch at the moment because Essendon will not, and I don’t think will blink at all. They are determined to stick to the trigger at the moment that has Jake Stringer contracted for 2025 on very modest money.
“Jake’s determination to land a second year to that has him out in the open market at the moment. There is no obvious suitor at this stage, Collingwood have been linked, I’m not sure if they are any further advanced than anyone else at this stage.
“He has not found the second year. If he does get it, then obviously there is a big decision to make, he has told people he’s not keen on going back to Essendon, that he has played his last game for Essendon.
“I still think it’s a possibility that he might have to go back there, what would sit in behind that would be significant.”
