Cornes and Whateley dominant at AFMAs as SEN picks up best innovation award

SEN’s Kane Cornes and Gerard Whateley were dominant at the 2024 Australian Football Media Awards on Tuesday night.

Media star Cornes claimed the Alf Brown Award as the best overall media performer of 2024, stemming from his work on SEN Breakfast and SEN’s Sportsday, as well as with AFL Media, The Age and Channel Nine.

The Port Adelaide premiership player and 300-gamer also won the Lou Richards Medal, awarded to a former or current player working in the media. Cornes also won the award for the best opinion/analysis in radio, TV or digital. 

Whateley, host of SEN’s Whateley, was awarded the best radio match caller for his live play by play broadcasting on SEN. His program on Fox Footy, AFL 360, won best TV show. 

Sports Entertainment Network also won the best innovation category for the SEN Stadium/Sync product.

Project Diamond CEO Ricky D’Amelio accepted the award for the outstanding innovative work he and his team have undertaken in launching the zero latency product which is available to listeners live at AFL games in stadiums around the country. 

SEN regular Tom Morris won best news reporting by an individual (print/online) and best news or feature reporting by an individual (radio/TV/digital).
