New Zealand's football community is mourning the loss of Sam Malcolmson, one of its greatest characters on and off the field.

Passing away aged 77, the Scotland-born defender made Aotearoa his home in the 1970s and made his debut for the All Whites in 1976, going on to play 32 games for his adopted nation.

Malcolmson was also a member of the iconic 1982 World Cup squad that made history as the first Kiwi side to reach the sport's biggest stage.

This week, Studs Up! Podcast hosts Riccardo Ball and Daniel McHardy recall their own personal interactions with Malcolmson

Also on the latest episode, Noel Barkley calls in to pay tribute to Malcolmson, his friend and former All Whites teammate (1:40), the lads give their take on the new-look Champions League structure with match day 1 underway (13:18), then McHardy laments Liverpool's lacklustre performance against Nottingham Forest (28:35).

Plus, the anticipation for the NZ derby between the Wellington Phoenix and Auckland FC is building as their squads for the 2024-25 A League season take shape (31:17), with a few best bets for the weekend to wrap up (39:51).
