“This could be a blowout”: David Schwarz’s shock Preliminary Final prediction

Melbourne great David Schwarz is very confident in Geelong ahead of Saturday’s Preliminary Final against Brisbane at the MCG.

The Cats enter the do-or-die clash with an extra week of rest after their Qualifying Final win over Port Adelaide, while Brisbane enters the game after coming back from 44 points down last week to win in their Semi-Final against GWS.

While the Cats enter as slight favourites, Schwarz is backing them to easily account for Chris Fagan’s side and win by 40 to 50 points.

He expects the Cats to defend staunchly and blow Brisbane out if their forwards are inaccurate in front of goal.

“I’ve been saying Geelong will win the flag for a month or so now,” Schwarz told SEN The Captains Run.

“I just think they are cherry ripe, they’ve got so much experience, so much strength, they’re bigger bodies and they've played in so many finals appearances.

“Brisbane are a very competitive side, but if their big fellas don't get involved – and we saw what Joe Daniher did against GWS – but if their kicking is off and Geelong defend as good as any side in the business … I think this could be a blowout.

“I'm tipping the Cats by 40 to 50 points. I think they'll put them to bed, they’ll march into a Grand Final with superior confidence.”

With Geelong his overall premiership tip as well, Schwarz lauded Chris Scott’s system with an even contribution from his entire 23.

“I'm a huge believer in the Cats,” Schwarz said.

“At the moment, they've got depth, they've got system, they've got players that just keep popping up whether it’s Lawson Humphries or Shaun Mannagh - anybody that comes into that side plays their role, and they do it well.

“I don't think anything's going to change that.”

Saturday’s Preliminary Final between Geelong and Brisbane at the MCG begins at 5:15 pm (AEST).
