Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has continued her red-hot run of form with victory at the LPGA Kroger Queen City Championship in Ohio on Monday morning (NZ time).
Starting her final round two shots shy of the lead, Ko stormed home with a tournament-high 63, to finish at 23-under overall and clinch her 30th professional title, banking US$300,000 (NZ$480,810) for her efforts.
It's Ko's third triumph in as many starts, after winning gold at the Paris Olympics and the British Open last month.
The 27-year-old's round was highlighted by an eagle on the 11th hole, putting her ahead of overnight leader Thailand Jeeno Thitkul. And she never looked back, leaving the rest of the field in her wake with a total of seven birdies to close five shots clear of second-placed Thitkul.
The tournament was Ko's first since taking a three-week break after her triumph at St Andrews.
"I had the most unbelievable three weeks in Europe, and after having another three weeks off you're not entirely sure what it's going to be like," Ko told broadcaster Sky Sport after her win.
"I said I know Jeeno and the other girls aren't going to play bad golf, so I've just got to play even better golf. To have a round like this to cap off a win is pretty special."
Last month's feats helped Ko secure her place in the LPGA Hall of Fame, and she admits a touch of disbelief herself at her sparkling recent stretch.
Now she has her sights set on a new goal - completing a grand slam of majors.
With the British Open, the Chevron Championship and the Evian Championship in the bag, Ko needs to win the PGA Championship and the US Open to complete the set. "I had a fairytale these last couple of months and now I feel that if I set my mind to do it maybe I can do it.
"So it's always been a goal of mine to do the career grand slam, but I just thought that would be so out there, but I feel I have been part of this fairytale so why not."
