Collingwood coach Craig McRae says that the club won’t be pursuing Essendon forward Jake Stringer this trade period.

The Magpies were linked to Stringer a fortnight ago after it was revealed that the forward was keen to move to a rival club after Essendon refused to offer him more than the one-year deal he has for the 2025 season.

AFL Media’s Cal Twomey also reported that McRae himself had a ‘keenness’ on bringing Stringer to the AIA Centre, but the coach himself says that the club has decided not to head down that path after assessing all of their options.

“I heard the rumour and then went a bit deeper and saw that, ‘McRae really wants Jake Stringer’,” McRae told SEN The Run Home.

“I'll admit, we looked at it, it came across our desk that Jake Stringer (could be gettable) … you have a look at the depth of it.

“But I'm happy to say here that when we won't be bringing Jake Stringer to that footy club.

“Not because of any or many reasons, but to the rumour that I want him, that’s a bit of a stretch.

“We did our research, and we did all things behind the scenes like where he fits on our list, the money, the tenure and whatever.

“But no, I'm happy to say he won't be coming to Collingwood next year.”

McRae’s stance comes after SEN’s Sam Edmund reported that the Pies were out of the race for Stringer.

Despite Collingwood not targeting the 30-year-old, Edmund did link the Swans to the wantaway Don.
