Webcke slams “unprofessional” Broncos over Walters' sacking

Broncos Legend Shane Webcke has called out Brisbane over their handling of Kevin Walters' departure.

Webcke suggests the players were not informed of this decision and heard the news alongside the public.

“Adam Reynolds was saying they did not know, he’s heard through the public realm and the players did not know,” Webcke told SENQ's Pat and Heals.

“If that is true, that is the most unprofessional thing that club has ever come up with.”

Despite the Broncos framing the decision as mutual, Webcke argues that it was a dismissal dressed up to avoid public backlash.

The club have released a statement announcing Walters exit.

“Coaching the NRL takes a toll not just on the coach but also on their family. It’s time for me to step away and spend some quality time with my loved ones...”, Walters said in the statement.

Webcke feels they have done a disservice to all involved by sugar-coating it.

“Now they are trying to put nice pretty wallpaper over it and call it something that it’s not,” he added.

“If you’re going to make a tough call, call it for what it is.”
