Cameron Smith weighs in on discussions surrounding Nelson Asofa-Solomona’s controversial suspension on SEN Breakfast with Vossy & Brandy.
The Melbourne Storm will be without Asofa-Solomona for the pending Grand Final against the Penrith Panthers, as he faces a four-week suspension after high shot on Lindsey Collins in Roosters finals match.
The Storm prop faces a Grade three careless high tackle charge from the NRL, Smith questioning the necessity of such a serious charge.
“I was okay with the sin-binning…but I was really surprised with the grading,” he told SEN Breakfast with Vossy & Brandy.
“Let’s just say the tackle was performed exactly the same way but Lindsay Collins gets to his feet and plays the ball and gets a Cat 2 injury assessment instead of a Cat 1 ... then he (Asofa-Solomona) doesn’t get the Grade three high contact charge.”
Smith explains that people will always react differently to that kind of contact so questions how fair it is to punish based on injury.
Many were shocked by the decision which could have huge consequences as the Storm enter the Grand final down one of their star players.
