Daniel Rioli has been named the winner of the 2024 Jack Dyer Medal after claiming Richmond’s best and fairest in a tight count on Tuesday night.

The dashing defender polled 40 votes to claim his first club champion award, edging out fellow backman Nick Vlastuin on 38 votes with captain Toby Nankervis third on 36 votes.

Nathan Broad finished fourth on 33 votes, while Shai Bolton and Liam Baker, the latter set to depart the club for West Coast, finished equal fifth on 30 votes apiece.

Rioli, who recently requested a trade to Gold Coast, was Richmond’s most consistent player across 23 games in 2024. He led the Tigers for total disposals and uncontested possessions, and was top three for total kicks, rebound 50s and metres gained.

The three-time premiership player, who started his career as a small forward, makes it six straight first-time winners of the Jack Dyer Medal by following Tim Taranto, Tom Lynch, Dylan Grimes, Jayden Short and Dion Prestia.

Other award winners on the night included Broad who won his second straight Francis Bourke Award (for upholding trademark values), Bolton who won the Michael Roach Award as the leading goal kicker, Seth Campbell who was named the Bill Cosgrove/Harry Jenkins Best First Year Player and Kaleb Smith who won the David Mandie Community Award.
