Marcus Bontempelli is the Western Bulldogs’ best and fairest for a sixth time after claiming the Charles Sutton Medal on Wednesday night.
The inspirational club captain polled 314 votes to see off Adam Treloar and Bailey Dale who were tied in second on 245.
‘The Bont’ adds this year’s club champion award to his 2016, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023 triumphs, joining Gary Dempsey on six best and fairests, just one shy of Scott West’s club record of seven.
Remarkably, the 28-year-old has finished in the top four in 10 of his 11 seasons in the red, white and blue.
In 2024, Bontempelli was also named captain of the All-Australian team and won the Leigh Matthews Trophy as the Players’ MVP.
Behind the top three was Liam Jones (203) and Ed Richards (188) who rounded out the top five.
Other award winners on the night included Bontempelli who win the John Van Groningen Coolum Ninderry Award (voted by payers and coaches), Joel Freijah who won the Chris Grant Best First Year Player, Lachlan Bramble who was awarded the Tony Liberatore Most Improved Player, Jones who claimed the Scott West Most Courageous Award and Rory Lobb who was named Best Finals Player as well as the Brad Johnson Best Team Player.
