Brisbane forward Joe Daniher has informed his teammates that he is retiring from AFL footy, reports SEN regular and Nine’s Tom Morris.
Daniher, 30, has a year remaining on his deal but has decided to step away from footy after winning the 2024 AFL Grand Final on Saturday.
Seven’s Mitch Cleary reported before the Grand Final that Daniher was weighing up his future and after kicking 2.4 goals and picking up 16 disposals in the big game, has stepped away from football.
Daniher played 204 AFL games and kicked 395 goals across his AFL career.
He played 108 games for the Dons from 2013 to 2020, with his other 96 coming for the Lions in 2021, 2022, 203 and 2024.
He retires as a premiership player with the Lions, six-time club leading goal kicker, Anzac Day medallist, Mark of the Year winner and Essendon best and fairest winner.
