Storm legend, Matt Geyer reflects on Craig Bellamy winning ‘Coach of the year’ at the Dally M on Breakfast with Pat & Heals.

Bellamy has led Melbourne for 22 years, including 10 grand final appearances, with last nights ceremony marking 8 ‘Coach of the Year’ titles.

“He’s definitely in the conversation for greatest ever,” Geyer told *Breakfast with Pat & Heals. *

Geyer reflected on Bellamy’s ability to coach a variety of playing styles and build them into NRL legends, commenting on players turned coaches like Brett White and Matt King.

“They (White and King) were playing reserve grade at their own club, and we grabbed them over and by the time the finished at the Storm, they were playing for Australia.”

“What I love about him is he can coach anyone, he knows how to get the most out of every type of player.”

Geyer speaks to his time playing under Bellamy, explaining he was a bit defensive at first, but his desire to learn and adapt has allowed him to maintain such a high level for so long.

“Back in the day I don’t think he could coach a Cam Munster type of player.”

“He has an insatiable appetite to learn... he wants to know and wants to improve.”

Geyer cements Craig Bellamy as one of the best the game has seen and is excited to watch him lead the Storm in Sunday's Grand final clash against Penrith.
