There is a long list of players who are deemed to be “in limbo” ahead of the 2024 trade period.

SEN regular and Channel 9 journalist Tom Morris provided the names of a number of players who are currently without a contract and have been made to wait until the trade period ends before they know more about their future.

Morris rolled through the payers who are in limbo right now.

“Spare a thought for the following players who are out of contract at their current clubs and have been told to wait until the end of the trade period,” Morris said on AFL Trade Radio.

“Clearly this is betting than being delisted in the first place, but they are in limbo now these players.

“At Adelaide there is Ned McHenry, Lachlan Gollant, Patrick Parnell and Will Hamill.

Carlton has Matt Owies who we know about. He has been offered up to Port Adelaide but Port aren’t interested. That was a few weeks ago.

“A couple of Carrolls, Jack and Matt, at Carlton as well and Sam Durdin.

“At Collingwood there’s Reef McInnes and Nathan Kreuger are in limbo.

“At Essendon there’s Jayden Davey and Will Setterfield are in limbo.

“At Hawthorn, their Pick 6 Denver Grainger-Barras is in limbo. He’d been told to wait until the end of the trade period. Ethan Phillips, the key defender, is in the same boat. Jack O’Sullivan, who had a good year of goal kicking for Box Hill, is in limbo.

At Port Adelaide it’s Francis Evans and Quinton Narkle.

“At Richmond it’s Kamdyn McIntosh, a free agent and dual premiership player, is in limbo. Noah Cumberland is in limbo.

“At St Kilda there’s Ben Paton, Olli Hotton and Jack Hayes who are all in limbo.

“Among them we have a Norm Smith Medallist - Jason Johannisen at the Western Bulldogs. Also at the Bulldogs is Alex Keath and Charlie Clarke.

“Not a great spot to be for those players, it must be quite difficult and taxing mentally over the next couple of weeks.”

Morris and co-host Dan Hannebery both feel that Grainger-Barras, who was selected with Pick 6 in 2020, would well be worth a second chance at another club if the Hawks were to let him go.

“Grainger-Barras intrigues me,” said Morris.

“He is considered a third defender at Hawthorn. They tried to make him a key defender, that’s not it.

“I’m not sure Sam Mitchell is a massive fan of his work. Surely one of the WA clubs would take a punt on him for a year.”

Hannebery added: “I think they’d be crazy not to.

“Obviously he hasn’t lived up to that hype of a Pick 6, but you’ve just got to back your system in.

“If you’re giving up nothing for him you might as well take a risk o that than a kid in the rookie draft or someone who is a Pick 50.

“I’d definitely be taking a punt on someone like him, because you just never know.”
