Greater Western Victoria Rebels midfielder has drawn comparisons to Richmond great Dustin Martin in his draft year.
While they both wear the number four, the similarities don’t stop there with the potential No. 1 pick having explosive/midfielder forward traits that mirror that of Martin.
Even though Lalor is flattered by those comparisons, he knows he has a long, long way to go to ever reach the levels that Martin did but he does admit he tries to add things to his game that the recently retired great possessed.
“I don't know how accurate it is, to be honest,” Lalor told SEN Mornings.
“I’m obviously nowhere near as good as he is but I like watching him as a player and I try to add some things into my game that he does.
“I've brought it (the don’t argue) out a couple of times this year, I really do enjoy that.”
Although he’s been most compared to Martin, the Collingwood-supporting Lalor has tried to model his game on another AFL star, Jordan De Goey.
De Goey too has long been compared to Martin and Lalor says he tries to emulate what the 2023 premiership star can do on the field both in the midfield and as a resting power forward.
“I barrack for Collingwood, so that (De Goey) is who I’ve been trying to play like,” Lalor said.
“Throughout this year I've probably based my game on (what he does).
“I've watched him for ages, he can go forward and he's a big midfielder.”
Lalor missed out on the end of his draft season with a high-grade hamstring injury but is still considered a potentially very early selection in the 2024 AFL Draft.
