Josh Jenkins has outlined Essendon’s biggest hits and misses from the last five years of drafting and recruiting players.
The former Adelaide Crows forward will assess each of the 18 clubs on AFL Trade Radio and provide what he believes have been the hits and misses when it comes to player acquisition over the last half decade.
Read his thoughts on the Bombers below:
“Their biggest hit has been their Mid-Season Draft picks,” Jenkins said on The Late Trade.
“It’s really saved face when you look at Sam Durham, __ Massimo D'Ambrosio__ (who is no longer there) and Nic Martin as well who was an SSP pick.
“Two of their best handful of players have come through the Mid-Season Draft.”
“Their big misses came at pick eight, nine and 10 in the same Draft,” Jenkins added.
“I'm sorry to say this Essendon fans, and there's still time for Nik Cox, Archie Perkins and Zach Reid if his body allows, for those guys to turn into really good players.
“But at this point in time, they just haven't got what you'd expect from picks eight, nine and 10 in a Draft. That was a few years ago. “Now coming up from five years ago in terms of grading them, they get a D for what they've done in this space, which is perhaps kind to them as well.
“To sign off, when you miss at the pointy end of the Draft, your drought has little chance of ending.”
