Australia have suffered a massive blow ahead of their Test series against India this summer with all-rounder Cameron Green set to undergo surgery on a stress fracture.
Green reported lower back pain during the recent white-ball tour to the UK and follow-up scans have since confirmed the 25-year-old has a stress fracture of the lumbar spine.
There were initial reports suggesting Green could still play this summer without bowling but after an extensive consultation, the decision was made for Green to undergo surgery.
The expected recovery time for the procedure is approximately six months which has completely ruled out Green for the summer of cricket and has cast huge doubt over his long-term future as a genuine all-rounder.
Green has played 28 Tests for Australia since his debut against India at Adelaide in the 2020/21 series.
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy between Australia and India begins on 22 November at Optus Stadium in Perth.
