Collingwood is interested in Brisbane midfielder Deven Roberton this trade period according to a report from Code Sports.
The Lions have stated that they’re happy to help Robertson find a new home this off-season if he can find a suitor, and the Magpies are reportedly showing interest in his services.
The former first-round pick played just two games in 2024 as he remained on the outer of Brisbane’s best 23 but has shown glimpses of quality across his 43 career games so far.
As Robertson couldn’t break into Brisbane’s best side last season despite averaging 25.9 disposals and 6.6 tackles a game in the VFL, Sam Edmund asked Kane Cornes on AFL Trade Radio whether he thinks the midfielder would be a best 23 player at Collingwood.
Edmund: “We had Danny Daly on last week and he mentioned Deven Robertson, a player who features, I think, every year in trade time because he's just out of that strong best 23.
“He's potentially on the move again. He's in contract now, but Code Sports is reporting that Deven Robertson wants to get to Collingwood.
“Is that the right match? Would Deven Robertson actually get a game at Collingwood?”
Cornes: “Yeah, I think he would.”
Edmund: “He gets a game at Collingwood, but can't get a game at Brisbane?”
Cornes: “Well, it’d be him or Tom Mitchell, I don’t think you can play both of them.
“He (Robertson) probably lacks leg speed, but they need players of his age bracket to come in … so I don’t hate it.
“It won't cost you a lot. He's tough, he’s aggressive, he wins contests.
“He lacks a little bit of leg speed and some attributes, but if you can support him with the likes of (Jordan) De Goey, (Nick) Daicos and Ed Allan gets some more opportunities through the midfield who I like, so I don't hate it.”
Edmund: “He's 23 and contracted until the end of next year at Brisbane, I think he’d be just above the AFL average in terms of wage so that potentially wouldn't be a problem.
“It had long been thought that he was going to head west, but maybe Collingwood's a suitor.”
According to the report, Collingwood’s pursuit of Robertson relies on whether they can land Port Adelaide’s Dan Houston.
