Legendary jockey Glen Boss has selected the horse he would most like to ride in this year’s Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).
Boss won four Cox Plates during his stellar career in the saddle, partnering with Makybe Diva (2005), So You Think (2009), Ocean Park (2012) and Sir Dragonet (2020) to win Australia’s premier weight-for-age race at Moonee Valley.
The 2024 edition promises to be a classic with a very even field assembled, but there is one horse in particular that stands out to Boss.
He remains a fan of Godolphin colt Broadsiding despite his defeat in the weekend’s Caulfield Guineas, likening the three-time Group 1 winner to the great So You Think.
“You’ve got this amazing colt, Broadsiding. He’ll bounce back,” Voss said on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“I promise you… he reminded me of So You Think that had got beaten in the Guineas. I’m telling you, he could be a better horse.
“I’ve got so much time for this horse. If you ask me who I’d like to ride in the race right now, it would be him. I’d do the weight (to ride at 49.5kg).
“Whoever gets off him after being beaten in the Caulfield Guineas is probably silly because he’ll bounce back.”
There are similarities between Broadsiding and So You Think given that the latter ran fifth in the Guineas two weeks prior to winning his first Cox Plate under Boss 15 years ago.
