David King isn’t particularly bullish about North Melbourne’s potential trade period acquisitions.
The Roos have already landed West Coast veteran Jack Darling and look set to add Luke Parker from Sydney and Caleb Daniel from the Western Bulldogs as well.
However, King doesn’t believe North adding a bunch of veterans to their squad will actually move the needle in 2025.
“I’ve been looking back at the steak-knife type players over the years and how many have actually made a difference at any of the clubs they’ve gone to?” King asked on AFL Trade Radio.
“Go back and look at last year and the year before. There’s two dozen players move around, and they do nothing, apart from one in every 30.
“I don’t get caught up in it. I don’t think they’ll have an impact at all.
“Parker is there to educate and teach and I just wonder why this is happening in the third year under Alastair Clarkson? Why isn’t it year one that you’re doing this? What happened the previous two years?”
With the AFL Trade Period closing tonight, the Kangaroos will be hoping to secure trades for both Parker and Daniel before the deadline.
The Roos had a clear lack of experience on their list in 2024, following the retirements of Jack Ziebell and Ben Cunnington and the loss of Todd Goldstein to Essendon.
