“This has fallen over”: GWS withdraw Stringer interest in late trade period shock

Jake Stringer won’t be getting his requested trade move to GWS according to AFL Media’s Cal Twomey.

Stringer had been looking for a two-year deal with a rival club this off-season after the Dons refused to offer him an extension beyond his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of next year.

After initially appearing in limbo, GWS confirmed their interest in Stringer during the trade period and it was expected that a deal would be done with two late picks heading back to Essendon.

Unfortunately for the forward, Twomey says that will no longer happen.

“There’s some news coming through and the discussions between Jake Stringer and the Giants has fallen through,” Twomey told AFL Trade Radio.

“There’s been some discussions in the past few days and past few weeks (in terms of Stringer joining the club), but this has fallen over and I don’t expect it to proceed.

“They’ve withdrawn their interest the Giants as I understand it.”

The 30-year-old will now return to Essendon, a club that he kicked 42 goals for during the 2024 season.
