The St George Illawarra Dragons has given captain, Ben Hunt formal permission to speak with other clubs, shocking fans and sparking questions of where the star could end up.
Hunt has tossed around leaving the club numerous times, but the team had always remained passionate about keeping him on board.
SEN's Andrew Voss and Greg Alexander discuss Hunt’s time with the club, expecting the star may finally move on.
“12 months ago, he wanted out. Shane Flanagan had to convince him to stay,” Alexander said on SEN 1170 Breakfast
Following an undesirable finish from Hunt as the Dragons finished shy of the finals, Voss and Alexander expect many Dragons fans may be happy to let Hunt go, interested in taking the team in a new direction.
“I got the impression they (fans) are happy for him to go,” Voss added.
“For a lot of the season he did play well, (but) it did fall off the cliff towards the back end,” Alexander added.
As fans doubt the star will return to the Dragons in 2025, speculations have begun on where he may end up.
On SEN Sportsday, Scott Sattler suggested Hunt will be playing under the Panthers next season.
“I’m saying it right now, Ben Hunt will be running out for the Panthers in round 1 next year," Sattler said on SEN.
Alexander reacted to this claim, suggesting there was no chance.
"That is one of the most outrageous things I have ever heard."
The panel express Penrith should not be in the conversation, although express there are currently many clubs on the table.
The future of the Dragons star remains unclear, but the two cement Hunt is unhappy with the Dragons and expect to see him in a new jersey for 2025.
