Adam Tomlinson would love to find his way to a third AFL club.

The 31-year-old defender has not been offered a new contract by Melbourne, delisted on Thursday after five seasons and 45 games in the red and blue.

Despite the decision by the Dees, which at first had him downcast, Tomlinson is keeping his options open for another crack at the elite level.

“It was great to know the decision yesterday as it’s been a bit of a holding period for the last three weeks,” Tomlinson said on SEN Breakfast.

“It isn’t a fun place to be and I probably haven’t been the greatest husband to be around.

“When the decision came through I was pretty upset and even though I knew it was coming it’s not the easiest thing to hear, particularly that they value other people higher than you.

“I’m somewhat hopeful that someone will see the news. Things go on behind the scenes and you have conversations with other clubs, so hopefully something can eventuate there.

“It’s just another part of my football journey and experience.”

Tomlinson, a foundation player at GWS where he played 140 games, is certainly open to another chance if a club is willing to offer it to him as a delisted free agent.

He has recently been linked with Collingwood and says he has spoken to both the Magpies and the Gold Coast Suns.

“There are some possible landing spots but there’s nothing concrete,” he added.

“As a 31-year-old I’m completely confident in my body and ability, and there are some opportunities possibly.

“But I can’t really sit here and say I’ll definitely be playing AFL as much as I hope to.

“We’ve spoken to Collingwood, Gold Coast and a few others. That’s what I’ll be doing today and the next (few weeks.)

“To be honest, there’s not as much of a rush right now. But there’s not as much opportunity as people think.”

If his playing career does not continue, however, the Melbourne native plans to remain in the industry.

Coaching is on not the agenda but a future in footy could still be on the cards.

“I’ve done a four-year uni degree, I’ve done two coaching degrees, I’ve done an AFL operations and list management house,” Tomlinson said further.

“I’ve done a lot outside of footy because it can end pretty quickly.

“I absolutely love football. It’s the greatest sport in the world, it’s the greatest working industry in the world.

“If I’m not playing I’d love to find a way to stay in it at some capacity. I love the management and operations side.”

Tomlinson, who debuted for the Giants back in 2012, has played a total of 185 AFL games over 13 seasons with two clubs.
