SENTrack’s Cam Luke believes and hopes Zardozi will win both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup this year.
The James Cummings-trained stayer is looking to achieve the same feat Without A Fight did last year with a Cups double and she heads to Caulfield in fine form after a runners-up performance in the Metropolitan a fortnight ago.
She’s currently considered a $7.50 chance in the Caulfield Cup with this years Sydney Cup winning rider Andrea Atzeni taking the ride.
“The fact is Zardozi was really good in the Metropolitan,” Cam Luke told SENTrack.
“These horses are going to have run a really strong 2400m to win this race, it’s a bloody good race and I think you need a real mile and a half horse to win this race and I don’t think Buckaroo is that.
“I think Zardozi will win the race, I’m telling you she was outstanding last start and there’s five or six horses that can win it.
“I think the winner of the Caulfield Cup can absolutely win the Melbourne Cup for the second time in two years.”
Zarodzi is currently a $21 shot in the Melbourne Cup but if she wins this weekend, her odds will drop significantly.
The Caulfield Cup will jump at 5:15PM (AEST).
