Carlton’s decision to delist young midfielder Jack Carroll has left Blues fan Andy Maher in shock as the October 31 list lodgement deadline looms.
The 21-year-old West Australian was drafted by the Blues in 2020 with Pick 41 out of East Fremantle before making his AFL debut in 2022.
In 2024, Carroll averaged 10 disposals and kicked four goals from 15 appearances in his most promising season to date. It included two games of 20 touches which stands as his career best.
As that improvement was seen to be significant enough, Maher was left dumbfounded that the Blues decided they would not require his services anymore.
“That’s a surprise to me,” Maher said on SEN’S The Run Home.
“15 games this year, a lot of them as the sub, but I’m a bit surprised by that.
“I don’t know much about the kid, but I’ve got no doubt somebody will be picking him up.
“He will be added to an AFL list by the time the 2025 season is up and about.
“I wonder whether other people are surprised by the Jack Carroll departure from the footy club.”
Carroll received interest from multiple clubs towards the back end of the season including West Coast.
Carlton also delisted Sam Durdin and Matt Carroll, with both players being invited to train on with the club in the hope to be picked up again in the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
