Sam Edmund expects Western Bulldogs tall Rory Lobb to have a massive season in 2025.
Lobb endured a tough start to the 2024 season, playing primarily in the VFL until being moved into defence in Round 14.
In those next 11 games down back, Lobb improved considerably and was even the club’s best player in their Elimination Final loss to Hawthorn playing as a tall defender that can intercept in the air.
Having already shown immense signs down back in only half a season, Edmund predicted that Lobb will earn an All-Australian squad of 44 honour in 2025 once he gets a full pre-season and home and away campaign in the role.
He discussed his big call with Kane Cornes on SEN Breakfast.
Edmund: “It was one of the positional shifts of the season from forward to back.
“Hold me to it, it’s my turn for this. He will be in the All-Australian squad of 44 next season.”
Cornes: “Wow.”
Edmund: “It’s a marriage made in heaven this, Rory Lobb to defence.”
Cornes: “Look, I've been I've been a card-carrying critic of Luke Beveridge. But that was good coaching, it was excellent coaching.
“Especially from where we thought Rory Lobb was going to be – that was at another club at about Round 10 last year.”
Edmund: “The final against Hawthorn was a car crash, but he was their best player.
“So, with a full summer under his belt (in defence), I think he makes the All-Australian squad.”
Cornes: “It may be one that I need to put my hand up and admit that I got wrong … but I’d like to see a full pre-season and season in the role.”
