Halfback Sam Walker is closing in on a two-year contract extension with the Sydney Roosters.
Walker will likely miss a large portion of the 2025 season given an ACL injury sustained in Round 26, however, this will not stop rival clubs looking to the halfback for the 2026 season on November 1.
Walker has yet to confirm where he will end up, but alluded to a deal being finalised with the Sydney club he began his career with, expecting a two-year contract with the Roosters will soon be made official.
“It’s all coming pretty close to a decision at the moment,” Walker told SEN1170.
Walker also discussed the Roosters side going into a new season, reflecting on departing players, specifically the impact of losing Jared Waerea-Hargreaves.
“It is a massive loss for us," he added.
“He is the most caring bloke in the locker room (and) when he gets onto that field he just turns into that maniac that we all see.”
Although he believes the team will certainly feel the loss of Waerea-Hargreaves, he insists Lindsey Collins and Spencer Leniu will be able to step up and take on that leadership role for the team.
“It will be a big step up for some of our front rowers,” Walker said.
“It is an exciting opportunity for those guys to put their foot down and be the leader of the pack.”
Walker is confident that the Roosters can finish out the 2025 season in the way they were unable to this season, hopeful to see a more energised and confident side.
The halfback is excited to get back into rehab and on the field playing alongside the Roosters as soon as he can.
