Former gun batsman Greg Blewett has picked who he'd have opening for Australia against India in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match in Perth.
With veteran Usman Khawaja a lock to have one of the spots, Blewett is selecting 19-year-old NSW prodigy Sam Konstas as his partner.
“Obviously Usman Khawaja is going to be one,” he told SEN1170.
“I’d go with the youngster. I’d go with Sam Konstas.
“He’s got the technique, he’s got the temperament as well.”
Following the decision from Steve Smith to drop back down the order, Konstas found himself as a popular contender for the vacant opener position alongside Khawaja.
However, Blewett admits selectors may not see the teenager as ready and he thinks that if they're thinking that way, the nod could could to South Australia's number three in Nathan McSweeney.
“If they think he (Konstas) is not quite ready, I'd go with Nathan McSweeney," he added.
“He is 25 years of age and is in good touch as well.
“I’d leave Marnus Labuschagne where he is at number three and I’d go with Nathan McSweeney to open.”
Despite uncertainty surrounding the openers, the former star looks forward to an exciting summer series.
Australia’s five-Test series against India begins in Perth on November 22nd.
