Victoria coach Chris Rogers has confirmed that both Glenn Maxwell and Matt Short will play in Friday’s One-Day clash against NSW at the Junction Oval.
Maxwell returns after getting through a 2nd XI red-ball clash last week for Victoria, while Short has overcome an adductor injury which he initially suffered in the fifth ODI against England in Bristol in September.
“We've got Glenn Maxwell and Matt Short coming into our team,” Rogers said on SEN Whateley.
“It’s not every day you get to have those two guys coming back into your side. I think it's going to be a high-scoring game so we’re looking forward to that.
“New South Wales will have a number of good players as well, so it’s going to be a challenge for us.
“Short just had a little adductor strain and Cricket Australia were a little bit conservative and wanted to make sure he’d be right for the One Day matches coming up for Australia.
“Glenn plays a huge amount of cricket, he travels all over, so, at some stage, he just needs a break for himself.
“We're looking after him and looking after the side as well.”
While Victoria will be boosted by their Aussie stars, so will New South Wales who have named Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Steve Smith in their squad.
Aussie pace pair Cummins and Hazlewood will use the match to ramp up their preparations for the home international summer, while Mitchell Starc has returned home to Sydney after turning out for his state in the recent Sheffield Shield clash against Victoria at the MCG.
Cummins hasn’t played for his state since 2021, while Hazlewood last played for NSW in the 2020/21 Shield final.
Friday’s One Day clash between Victoria and New South Wales at the Junction Oval begins at 10:05 am (AEDT).
