Brisbane Broncos second rower, Jordan Riki has been named a debutant for the Kiwi side ahead of the New Zealand vs Australia round of the Pacific Championship.
Riki joined SENQ to discuss his excitement to be representing his nation.
“It's awesome to be able to represent New Zealand and what a better place to do it than back home where I grew up,” Riki said on *SENQ. *
“I’m really excited to run out there with the boys.”
Riki is confident the New Zealand side can once again lift that championship trophy, believing the team needs to focus on simple plays to get the job done.
“We have just got to get the little things right, stick to basic footy,” he added.
“It is about gelling well and then hopefully we can go out there and get the job done.”
“The goal for us is to lift that trophy at the end of the series.”
“The excitement is through the roof and you can just feel it.”
Riki is especially excited to play alongside fellow New Zealand rugby stars, proud to be representing his home country alongside passionate players and coaching staff.
The Broncos star looks forward to a whirlwind preseason following the Pacific Championship as the Brisbane side prepare to welcome coach, Michael Maguire.
“I had a bit to do with Madge when I was in the Kiwi squad a couple of years ago when he was the coach and I get along with him really well.”
“He has got high standards (and) I am excited to see what he can bring to the team.”
