Former Manchester United keeper Mark Bosnich has named the three managers he thinks are in the running to take over at Old Trafford following Erik Ten Hag’s sacking.

According to reports, Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is leading the race and Bosnich also gets the feeling that he could be locked in as the Red Devils’ next boss after United confirmed that they were willing to pay his 10 million euro release clause.

Bosnich would be happy if Amorim landed at Manchester given his success in Lisbon and the side’s start in the Portuguese top flight and UEFA Champions League this season.

“I’ve got a feeling that there’s one that’s pretty much locked in,” Bosnich told SEN Sportsday.

“The early talk has surrounded a Portuguese gentleman named Ruben Amorim.

“For those who don’t know him, he’s in his 30s and he coaches Sporting Lisbon who won the Portuguese league last season and they’re top of the table in Portugal right now and are doing very well in the Champions League too.”

If Amorim doesn’t take over, the two other names that Bosnich has in mind is ex-Barcelona boss Xavi and former England manager Gareth Southgate.

Having played with Southgate during his time at Aston Villa, Bosnich thinks that the ex-England manager would do a fantastic job if handed the opportunity at Old Trafford.

“But there's also Xavi, who was one of the greatest players of all-time, he’s an ex-Barcelona and Spain International, who up until last season was in charge of Barcelona and had some success, but he left the club.

“There's also my ex-teammate Gareth Southgate, who's available after his tenure with England came to a close after the Euros.

“I'm a little bit biased because he's an ex-teammate of mine and and a friend of mine, I think he would do a fantastic job as well.

“He understands pressure number one, because after being England manager, nothing really compares to that.

“He took England to a couple of Euro finals after they were struggling before he got that job.

“Those three that I just mentioned seem to be the early frontrunners.”

United currently sit 14th on the Premier League table with three wins, two draws and four losses from nine games this season.
