The AFL club with potentially the toughest decision to make in the top five of the National Draft

What will the Adelaide Crows do with Pick 4 in the upcoming National Draft and will they feel pressured to selection South Australian local Sid Draper?

Draper is viewed as one of the 10 best players in what is a very even and talented draft class.

It was reported by 7NEWS Adelaide in September that the teenager’s inner circle wasn’t particularly sure about being drafted by the Crows, hesitant about their treatment of young forward Josh Rachele.

Rachele was omitted from the senior side for the final game of the season, with senior players calling out his maturity.

However, Draper has since shot down those reports, saying he is happy to be picked up by the Crows.

Former Geelong and SANFL star Daniel Menzel wonders if Adelaide will feel any added pressure to draft the dynamic midfielder, given the likely backlash if he succeeds elsewhere.

“The one that will be interesting is Sid Draper and where he goes,” Menzel told SEN SA’s Sportsday.

“If he is there at four, the Crows surely just take him. That will be fascinating. Imagine if they don’t pull the trigger.

“It shouldn’t be done like this, but for the recruiting manager and the people at the Crows, it is a much safer option to pick him if he is there than not.

“If he becomes a bust, and I don’t think he will, but you can go ‘well he was the local boy and touted really highly, not our fault’.

“If he doesn’t bust, you obviously look pretty good. If you don’t pick him however and he becomes a star elsewhere, you’re probably losing your job.”

Menzel praised the Crows for their work in the trade period, bringing in Alex Neal-Bullen, Isaac Cumming and James Peatling, adding three best 22 players to their side before even factoring in pick four.

“It’s a nice trio of players to come into the side to add to their playing group and bolster their depth as another three potentially drop out of their best team,” he said.

“I think they did really well. I think it was a pretty fair trade period for the Crows.

“I think they actually got a really good deal with Peatling and they did sensationally there.

“I think that’s the general consensus, that the Crows are pretty happy with their trade period.”

Adelaide only holds picks four and 64 on draft night, given their busy trade period.
