93-time Group 1 winning jockey reflects on huge wins and Hall of Fame career

Horse racing great Shane Dye is this week’s guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.

The 58-year-old is renowned as one of the greatest jockeys to have ever graced the Australian turf.

Across a 30-year trophy-laden career, Dye rode a remarkable 93 Group 1 winners.

Dye claimed the Melbourne Cup in 1989 on Tawriffic, the Cox Plate in 1995 on Octogonaland, the Victoria Derby in 1995 on Nothin’ Leica Dane and four consecutive Golden Slippers from 1989 to 1992.

The hoop was born in New Zealand into a racing family before moving to Australia where the bulk of his career took place.

Dye also rode in Hong Kong and eventually in Mauritius before retiring from competitive racing in 2013.

The all-time great was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2014 and he’s also a member of the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame.
