Prominent owner John O’Neill has two horses that punters should follow this coming weekend.
The first comes in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield this Saturday in the form of Jimmysstar.
The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding most recently ran second to Another Wil in the Group 2 Damien Oliver at Flemington on Derby Day but will get a nice weight swing on that galloper this weekend.
“We’ll go to the Group 1 at Caulfield on Saturday,” O’Neill said on SEN.
“Jimmysstar with 53kg, Another Wil with 56kg and Southport Tycoon 59kg.
“So we get some weight relief and ‘Frosty’ is booked.”
Damien Lane will ride Jimmysstar who is currently the $3 equal favourite with Another Wil according to Sportsbet.
Next on the agenda for O’Neill and his ownership group is three-year-old colt Cash at Geelong on Sunday.
“Then after we get the money there (with Jimmysstar) we’re going down the highway on Sunday for a little first-starter, a three-year-old by Snitzel,” he added.
“Named after my dog, Cash. Just tune in Sunday, Michael Hickmott trains, wears Tigers colours.
“It is a surer thing than death.” (But gamble responsibly).
The fields for this race are not yet released so a market is not yet available. Cash is also nominated for Moonee Valley on Friday night.
Back to Saturday and trainer Wayne Hawkes has a key runner in the feature race at Newcastle, The Hunter over 1300m.
Briasa has won five of six career starts and last saluted by more than three lengths in a Benchmark-88 at Randwick’s Kensington track on October 30.
“Briasa is probably the best horse I’ve got,” Hawkes added.
“He’s running in Sydney on Saturday. He is in The Hunter at Newcastle.
“That’ll do me.”
Briasa is priced at $7 for The Hunter behind Far Too Easy ($4.50) and Private Eye ($6.50).
The Hunter is worth $1 million with a cool $580,000 going to winning connections.
