The horses to beat in the Thousand Guineas and Sir Rupert Clarke at Caulfield

The final Group 1s in Victoria for 2024 will be run at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Thousand Guineas (1600m) for three-year-old fillies is worth $1.5 million and the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) is worth $1 million.

Joliestar, Madame Pommery, Yearning, Odium and Flit have won the Thousand Guineas over the last few years.

Magic Time, Callsign Mav, Sierra Sue and Behemoth are the most recent winners of the Rupert Clarke.

Thousand Guineas

You cannot deny Chris Waller’s Aeliana after her impressive triumph in the Carbine Club at Flemington on Derby Day.

James McDonald, who is chasing three Thousand Guineas in a row, again rides the filly who stays at the mile.

She is definitely the horse to beat.

We’re throwing up a mix of fancied horses and those a bit longer in the market in what looks a competitive Thousand Guineas.

Godolphin’s Zeitung has done little wrong and must be respected as a danger, especially on the back of her win in the Vanity two weeks ago.

Lovelycut is over the odds and can run well at double figures after her fourth behind Zeitung at Flemington.

Supercilious is a threat at each-way odds. Feel she should be a bit shorter in the market now that she has drawn a gate.

Throw in Matisse if you’re playing exotics.

Rupert Clarke

It’s hard to look beyond the three Ciaron Maher runners.

Another Wil is drawn perfectly in barrier 5 for Jamie Kah and is in winning form after saluting in The Damien Oliver.

The setup on Saturday looks good again and he does look the horse to beat.

Jimmysstar is the obvious danger.

He does get a little weight swing on Another Wil which is handy, but gate 1 is a bit sticky and he’ll need a peach from Damian Lane.

If all goes perfectly to plan, Southport Tycoon can blouse his fancied stablemates.

The two-time Group 1 winner will need some luck, but if he gets it, he can win. Include in everything.

War Machine looks over the odds and can improve after running well in the Golden Eagle.
