Former AFL player David Schwarz is convinced that the Kangaroos have a gem in Oakleigh Chargers graduate Finn O’Sullivan.
The versatile midfielder is already well-known for his ability through the middle of the park. His athleticism and power are key pillars of his game seeing O’Sullivan drafted second overall in the 2024 AFL Draft.
However, Schwarz is most excited with O’Sullivan’s attitude and focus through his basketball background.
“This kid, he's seriously the most competitive, most rounded. His peripheral vision, work ethic, sportsmanship. As I said, a lot of kids play basketball,” Schwarz told SEN Sportsday.
“He's probably one of the most complete I've ever seen.
“He's not big but by God, he's got a heart bigger than anyone I've seen.
“If I'm a North Melbourne supporter, well, just lock him away as someone that you're going to fall in love with as a footballer because he just does not give up.”
O’Sullivan has received high praise throughout 2024 being touted as the most complete footballer to come out of this year's draft class.
However, qualities beyond the field could help O’Sullivan take his game to the next level in a senior list environment.
Schwarz is resolute that O’Sullivan has comparisons to a Saints legend. Both in his mindset and leadership capabilities and believes, he can be a mainstay as North Melbourne rebuilds.
“I don't want to put too many raps on him, but I think of him as a gut-running Robert Harvey type,” Schwarz said.
“Now, if he turns out half as good as Harves, well he's a star. If he turns out a quarter as good as him, he's going to still be a very good player.
“I just know what he does to get ready to play. So, everything's going to be ticked, everything's going to be crossed.
“You're going to get a kid that's going to give 100%, and you're going to get every drop out of his lemon.
“If I'm North Melbourne and I'm a supporter of theirs, be excited because he's going to be a ripper.”
North Melbourne completed their first-round selections with Matt Whitlock, trading away their 2025 first-round pick.
The Kangaroos are looking to charge up the ladder after finishing 17th in 2024.
