Horse racing great Brent Thomson is this week’s guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
The 66-year-old is renowned as one of the greatest jockeys to have ever graced the Australian turf, a space he ruled in the 1970s and ‘80s.
Across a near four decade trophy-laden career, Thomson rode hundreds of winners including some of the biggest races both down under and overseas.
Thomson claimed a remarkable four Cox Plates (1975, 1977, 1978 and 1979), the Caulfield Cup twice, two Australian Cups, the Victoria Derby in 1978 and the Australian Derby 1979 among many more majors.
The hoop was born in Wanganui New Zealand into a racing family with his father Kevin Thomson a leading trainer.
Thomson moved to Australia as a fresh-faced teenager, earning the nickname ‘Babe’. He’d also ride overseas – mainly in the United Kingdom – where he’d ride more than 100 winners.
The all-time great was inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame in 2012 and he’s also a member of the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame.
The former jockey great discussed his career and much more in this week’s episode.
