Leading form analyst Mitch Lewis has given a big push for Tuvalu at Caulfield on Saturday.
The Lindsey Smith-trained Group 1 winner will race second-up on the weekend in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes after a huge first-up run when fifth in the Rupert Clarkes Stakes after a long time off.
He drops significantly in grade on Saturday and gets in well at the weights given his rating and the fact that he’s the only Group 1 winner in the race.
With rain predicted to fall at Caulfield, Lewis says the wet conditions will be perfect for this galloper.
“I’m pretty keen on Tuvalu here, I just think he gets everything set up for him here,” Lewis told SENTrack.
“We know he likes the heavy track with rain predicted, barrier two will do him no disservice as he can settle in the right position in the run.
“We saw how good he was first-up and if he can improve off that, which he has been able to improve previously when second-up, then I think it bodes pretty well for him.
“I’m sure Lindsey will be doing a little bit of a rain dance to get closer to that 30mm rather than the 6mm that they’re forecasting but even on a Soft 7 ground I think he’ll be suited, Tuvalu.
“He’s probably one of my better ones on Saturday.”
Ethan Brown will ride and he’s won two times on him from three starts.
He’s the current $2.60 favourite with Sportsbet in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes over 1400m.
