The cricket world is in mourning following the passing of former Australian Test opener Ian Redpath age 83 on Sunday.
Redpath played 66 Tests from 1964 to 1976, scoring eight centuries and 31 fifties at an average of 43.45.
The Victorian also played 226 First Class games, becoming one of the state’s most accomplished players with 14,993 runs at the level including 32 tons and 84 fifties.
One of Redpath’s close friends, Keith Stackpole, whom he played the bulk of his Tests and First Class cricket with for Victoria, spoke about his memories of the opener with Tom Morris on SEN Mornings.
“He was a terrific bloke, we started off at similar stages in our careers,” Stackpole said.
“We ended up great teammates, roommates … he was a terrific batsman and a great teammate, but most importantly a great bloke.”

Morris also chatted to leading cricket journalist Gideon Haigh about the impact ‘Redders’ made on both state and international cricket.
