Former Australian paceman Damien Fleming has named his top five left-arm quicks of all time.
While Fleming himself was a right-armer, his top-five list focused on lefties after Mitchell Starc’s eight-wicket effort in the second Test in Adelaide.
Fleming’s list was made up of three Aussies, one Kiwi great and one Pakistan legend.
He named his list from 5 to 1, with number one his best left-arm quick ever.
5 – Mitchell Johnson (Australia)
“I’m reminded about Mitchell Johnson … I didn’t see Jeff Thomson in 1974/75, but I played with Brett Lee who was the fastest I played with,” Fleming told SEN The Run Home.
“Johnson might not have been just as fast as Lee, but he was more hostile, he got ugly bounce off a length.
“That 2013/14 Ashes was the most hostile bowling I’ve ever seen from an Australian.”
4 – Trent Boult (New Zealand)
3 – Mitchell Starc (Australia)
2 – Alan Davidson (Australia)
1 – Wasim Akram (Pakistan)
“At number one, it’s too hard to go past Wasim.”
Fleming also named some notables who were unlucky to not make his top five in Bruce Reid (Australia), Chaminda Vaas (Sri Lanka), Zaheer Khan (India) and Bill Johnston (Australia).
