Konstas will play in the Sydney Smash against the Sydney Sixers on Saturday before joining the Aussie squad.

The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting Nathan McSweeney is set to be dropped ahead of the Boxing Day Test after a disappointing start to his Test career.

McSweeney, who was chosen at the start of the Border-Gavaskar Series to replace David Warner, has struggled opening against India, scoring 72 runs across six innings for an average of 14.4.

Speculation over the place of Australia’s top six has continued since the comprehensive first Test loss in Perth, and selectors clearly feel change is needed to counteract the form of India’s star pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Bumrah has dismissed 25-year-old McSweeney on four occasions already.

Teenage sensation Sam Konstas could be in line for a Test debut following his impressive start in the Sheffield Shield, while standby batter Josh Inglis is also a possibility to come into the side.

Cricket Australia have not confirmed any selection decisions as of yet.
